Education System in Singapore |

The education system in Singapore is one of the best in the world. The economic prosperity makes it possible to have a high standard when it comes to education. Schools in Singapore are very well equipped with a range of modern facilities.
Basic education in Singapore is compulsory by Law. (You can be jailed if you do not send your kids to school.) Education system starts from Kindergarten (nursery school), to Primary Schools in Singapore (PSLE), followed by Secondary Schools (GCE N or O level), and Tertiary Education (Private Schools, Junior Colleges, Polytechnics and Universities)
Junior Colleges
Students in Junior Colleges (JC) sit for GCE A Level. It usually takes two years to complete JC. After completing JC, students can join local universities such as NTU, NUS, SMU, etc. Or they can go abroad (Australia, UK) to further their studies.
Polytechnics
Polytechnics offer Diploma upon graduation. It usually takes three years to complete. After Poly, students can join local universities such as NTU, NUS, SMU, etc. Or they can go abroad (Australia, UK) to further their studies. Currently, there are five polytechnics:
Nanyang Polytechnic
Temasek Polytechnic
Ngee Ann Polytechnic
Singapore Polytechnic
Republic Polytechnic
Universities
Students who have graduated from JC or Polytechnics can apply for admission in local universities. For successful admission, they must excel at academics or at CCAs (co-curricular activities such as Sports, Music, etc.) Currently, there are three local universities.
National University of Singapore
Nanyang Technological University
Singapore Management University
